Gelato Glitz Series: Welcome

Note: This series was originally published between May 24th, 2015- June 5th, 2015. It’s initial purpose was to chronicle a two week trip to Italy and France. Some of the cities I visited over the course of this visit include: Florence, Rome, Naples, and Paris. Although things have undoubtedly changed over the past 7 years, I hope you are able to enjoy and appreciate the timeless memories presented here. My hope is that they paint a picture of how magical these cities truly are. They made such an impression on me that I dream of visiting both countries again one day.

Welcome to Gelato Glitz!

Gelato: noun, Italian Cookery
a rich ice cream, made with eggs and usually containing a relatively low percentage of butterfat, from Italy.

Glitz: noun
Ostentatious glitter or sophistication

I am a recent college graduate who has grown up in Michigan, but who has (unavoidably) left her heart in India and around the globe during a myriad of travels. I love health/fitness, food, reading, writing, learning and meeting new people and having glorious little expeditions (local and afar!) discovering new places with my family and acquaintances. I feel extremely privileged to have had the chance to visit Canada, Costa Rica, Japan and India, in addition to places across the U.S. in my life thus far.

This will be a personal travelogue created for entertainment and education purposes: logging, tracking, posting and falling in love with a few parts of this incredibly unique continent. For about a fortnight – 15 days to be exact – we will be traveling through France and Italy, touring the following cities (in order: Paris, Pisa, Cinque Terre (“Five Villages” lining Italy’s coast!), Florence, Rome, Naples and Venice.)

Paris, France

In all honesty, it seems unbelievable to type these words (my hands are quivering with the excitement and nervousness already!), but in exactly five days, I will be embarking on this boggling journey along with my family. So boggling, that I don’t know what to make of it: It sounds too glorious to be true, traveling to Paris, the fashion capital, Rome, the home of the Vatican, numerous exquisite and marvelous churches, and Venice, the city where streams and rivers intersect in the place of roads.
Over the course of our journey, I hope to capture the essence of each of our stops, including the foods, tourist sites, trains, planes, buses (transport) and historic landmarks and the most genuinely beautiful natural landscapes across Tuscan Italy and Paris.  I will make a conscious effort to observe intricacies of the peoples and places where we will set foot, as well as learn about the differences between my own culture and that of the places I visit. Most importantly, with this blog, I would like to pledge to keep an open mind and glean new artifacts of new communities, as well as grasp new ideas which will carry me forward as I traverse through life.

Venice, Italy

I will be updating this blog either on a daily basis or based on internet access as it will be a journalistic casual log of events, photo blasts and learnings.

I hope you will take a few moments out of your day to join us on our vacation, learn a new phrase or recipe or two (which I will try to note down just for kicks) and (I hope) get inspired to take your own trip abroad in the future.

For now, Au Revoir…………. and A tout a l’heure, France!
See you soon, France!
P.S. Gelato Glitz is reminiscent of the Italian delicacy / sweet which I am just dying to eat!
